ReadToUs is trying to raise reading readiness, reading ability, reading enjoyment and reading scope of children with a special emphasis on fairy tales and nursery rhymes. It seeks to reach all children and inspire their imagination and their love of books . ReadToUs will focus on children ages three through five. It’s a joint effort of Eileen’s family, her colleagues and the Berne Knox Westerlo schools’ community.

Www. ReadToUs.org is the group’s web site which promotes children’s literacy with information for parents and teachers and activities and links for children. It also describes the group’s missions, goals and actions.

ReadToUs will work with the local Thousand Books program to provide enticing Fairy Tale and Nursery Rhyme books to that lending program for three through six year olds and promote that program.

ReadToUs will organize and sponsor group Read Aloud events for pre-schoolers as well as one on one out-reach sessions between children and volunteers, mailings of stories, poems and activities directly to pre-schoolers , “books of my own” gifts. ReadToUs will support the development of a video on the joys and techniques of reading to your children which it will distribute to new parents along with other media for parents which promotes reading together for relationship building as well as life long learning.
