The “Eileen Harsen Hitter Passion for Literacy” memorial collection has been incredibly popular with all the children this year. The shelves are nearly empty all the time because as soon as a book is returned it is taken out by someone else. It is a wonderful thing to see the children so involved and excited about reading. We hope to enhance the collection and build on this great beginning.

The children borrowing these books are really excited about reading the notes or inscriptions written inside them from the donor. Most are very short, simple notes. Some notes say why the donor chose the book, what they liked about it or what they hope for the reader, some notes mention Mrs. Hitter or the the donor’s relationship to her.
